William Baker, Structural Engineering Partner at SOM, has dedicated his career to innovative structural engineering design, research, and academia. As the designer of the "buttressed core" structural system for the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest man-made structure; to Skyspace, a permanent art installation with artist James Turrell at Rice University, Bill's portfolio of built work includes structures at many scales for diverse programs.
Bill's involvement in academia spans across the globe; including an Honorary Professorship at the University of Cambridge and honorary doctorates from four leading institutions of higher learning. His contributions to the field have been received honors such as the Gustav Magnel Gold Medal from the University of Ghent and the Fritz Leonhardt Preis (Germany).
